Report and photos from the Classic Car Show, Terenure, Dublin in July 2009.

Prior to the car show in Terenure College, our club were successful in getting the Jaguar D-Type from the Jaguar Heritage Trust Museum to come to the show on Sunday. This was possible with help from the Spirit Motor Group, and on the Saturday prior to the show, the car was on display in their showrooms. Some of the officials of our club were fortunate in being brought for a drive in the car on Saturday afternoon. This particular D-Type was the actual car which won Le Mans for Jaguar in 1953. It was revolutionary in its day in that it was designed by Malcolm Sayer, who previous to working in Jaguar worked for the Bristol Aviation Company. It was a monocoque design and an all-aluminium body. It had a dry sump, and the 3.4 litre engine, 7 degrees canted. Our thanks to Tony O'Keeffe of the JHT, and Roger and Stuart who were custodians of the car during its time in Ireland.

On Sunday morning, John Sheehan, Larry Mohally, and John O'Driscoll travelled in John's Mk2 to the Mansion House in Dublin's Dawson Street, where this car was selected to join in the convoy following the Lord Mayor of Dublin to the official opening of the car show at Terenure.

This year also saw, for the first time, our Barrie Graham's magnificent XK120 roadster on our stand following a lengthy restoration, but all the worthwhile. Two of our members from the North of Ireland brought a wonderful Series 1 E-Type, and of course our stalwart restoration expert Leslie Girvan with his magnificent Daimler Dart. John O'Driscoll brought the current XKR as well as his 1960's S-Type. A good selection of cars representing Jaguar were brought along by members and our thanks to all who participated in this annual event. Once again, we experienced some liquid sunshine, but it didn't detract from the enjoyment or dampen the spirit of the show, or indeed the picnic brought by Miriam, as walking around the car show is hungry and thirsty work.
