May 2009 - Barrie's New XK120
On the 14th May, our esteemed news correspondent, Barrie Graham, travelled accompanied by John O'Driscoll complete with Jeep and trailer to Newry, where they took delivery of the long-awaited restoration on Barrie's XK120 from Leslie Girvan (well worth the wait). It's a superb car, and we eagerly anticipate its first outing at a club event.
Unfortunately for Barrie, it rained for 7 consecutive
days after taking delivery of this
wonderful car with no roof! The following 7 days it was dry and Barrie
was working. On the 15th day, success! And last weekend, the 30th of
May, he had a very successful drive from his home in Leamlara to his
in-laws in Clonakilty - a distance of approximately 80 miles to and
from.
We
would like to thank Barrie and Noelle for hosting the May meeting in
their home and for treating us so well - although one of our members
hijacked the XK120 for a short while, it was returned unharmed and we're
all still friends.
